Holiday Party

Today Wyatt took part in his very first holiday party. Yep, his daycare had a holiday party. The infants-3 year olds "sang" a few songs. Mainly their part was to shake the jingle bells and wave stars. I was able to get a video of them singing Jingle Bells and Wyatt eventually figured out what he was supposed to do with his bells. It was very cute as you'll see. Unfortunately the video is quite dark but you can see well enough and I have it zoomed in quite a bit so you mostly see Wyatt (he has the Santa hat on if you couldn't tell).

Also, today was Wyatt's last day at daycare. As a quite a few of you know, but I'm sure not everyone, Grace Lutheran Church (where I work) has been forced to make budget cuts as many places are doing right now and as of December 31st I will no longer be employed there. This is definitely unfortunate to say the least but there's nothing I can do about. However, starting January 12th, I'll be taking a Certified Nursing Assistant class in hopes of being able to find a job being a CNA in this difficult economic time. Bert will be done with school in May and then he'll be able to work full time again.

The second video is of Wyatt going ah, ah, ah with an upside-down sippy cup (a drip-proof one); it speaks for its self.

Oh yeah, yesterday was Wyatt's 11 month birthday!

What am I supposed to do with these?
I see, shake them!!!

Thanksgiving fun!

We hope that everyone had as good of a Thanksgiving as we did. First, on Thursday all three of us went to Chippewa Falls to meet Wyatt's newest cousin, Renae. She was born sometime later in the day on Wed. She was 6 lbs. 14 ounces and 20 inches long and very cute. She and mom, Alexis are doing well. Then we were off to Bert's mom's house for dinner with the majority of Bert's family. We had quite a bit of fun playing with everyone and Wyatt like showing off all that he can do now. After dinner Bert, unfortunately, headed back to River Falls to work on Friday and Saturday and I continued on to my parent's house to spend some time with them as well as my sister and her fiancee, Jim. All of us went to my cousin's baby shower on Friday. It was fun to get together with quite a few of my cousins as well as see some of the youngest children playing together (or should I say stealing from each other since they were all too young to really play together). Wyatt found a fairly large toy cement truck that kept him very busy for at least half hour which is saying a lot for a kid who is only 10.5 months old. Then on Saturday my parents and I headed out a got Christmas trees while Wyatt got some time with his aunt and uncle(-to-be). Then pretty early Sunday morning Wyatt, Jim and I headed back to the Cities (Jim had flown to Michigan the weekend before, drove to Amherst with Leslie and needed a ride back to the Cities on Sunday). I think Wyatt is getting used to all of this visiting because he has been pretty much himself the last couple of days which doesn't usually happen after a long weekend; he's usually pretty cranky for a day or two until he gets back into the regular swing of things.

Well here are some pictures from our visitings.
Hammin' it up for the camera!

This week Wyatt and I went to my parent's house and spent a couple days with them and my brother. We had quite a bit of fun. My brother hasn't seen Wyatt since he was 3 months old so he enjoyed seeing how much Wyatt could do now compared to then. We got to visit with great-Grandma Onan and I was able to see my cousin Olivia and meet her 3 week old daughter, Ebrielle. I decided that Wyatt couldn't come because he has a bit of a cold and I didn't want to expose Ebrielle to that. My parents also have a few goats and one of them had a couple of kids a little while ago so Wyatt got to meet them as well. I think he was preoccupied with all the clothes we had him in to notice the kids much. The only thing I would have changed was all of the dog barking didn't allow Wyatt to get the quality of naps that he's used to so he got a bit cranky by the end of the two days.

The other news that we have is that Wyatt cut his 5th tooth on Saturday and then he turned 10 months old on Monday. He may not be crawling "normally" but he sure is perfecting his army crawl and can get wherever he wants to go pretty quickly.

I'm coming to get your camera mom!
Me and Uncle Kyle
Playtime with grandma.

I like reading about farm animals
It was kinda cold but the kid was pretty cool.

Stats update

Just thought we'd let you know that Wyatt had his 9 month doctor's appointment on Tuesday. That means some more weighing, measuring and shots. Wyatt weighs 19 lbs. 6 oz. which is 40%; head circumference was 17.5 inches which was also 40% (his head is getting bigger at 6 months he was only in the 25%); and he was 29.5 inches tall which was again 85%. All in all he's growing exactly how he should be. He only had to get 3 shots (one of which was a flu shot) and he did extremely well for them. He started screaming after the first poke but by the time the nurse was done he had already stopped screaming. So it was another good doctor's appointment.

One cute cow!

Here are some pictures from this last week. Wyatt is learning so much everyday. My guess is that he will be crawling in the next couple of weeks. He has started pulling his knees under him for a split second before plopping forward. Then he has also started really jabbering. It sounds like he is saying "bop" over and over. I've been trying to figure out what he might be talking about (a book, bye-bye, etc) but he says it for anything he might be holding at the time. Another thing that Wyatt has begun doing is trying to figure our how to get his toys out of his "toy-box" (see pictures). Then for Wyatt's first Halloween I made him a little cow costume. He actually didn't seem to mind it too much. Bert and I took him "trick-or-treating" to the UW River Falls campus and went to about a dozen or so rooms. We basically went out for us to show off our cute cow.
Wyatt also wanted to say thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Onan (and mom) for the pumpkins.
I'm not so sure about sitting on this step.Ah, this is better.

I think I'm ready for a nap mom.

How do I choose...

what to pull out next?

You don't need your ear, do you dad?

Hold still Hawk, this won't hurt a bit.

Pics and a video

I have finally succeeded in getting the pictures and the video to upload and post. I hope that they are worth the wait. You can put my socks on when I'm done snacking on my toes!

I'll stand here only if I can play with the remote.

Wow! Dad's actually letting me "type".

Feeling better

Wyatt is finally starting to feel better. He still has a runny nose/cough but that is subsiding. As I wrote in one of my previous blogs that Wyatt had gotten hand, foot and mouth disease. That is all cleared up now. Also Wyatt had gotten two ear infections and was put on amoxicillin. His temperature decided to spike again 10 days after that and when my mom took him back to the docotr it was found that the amox. hadn't cleared up the infections so he was put on azithromicin (or something like that). That seems to have worked as Wyatt is feeling much better. Also when babies have ear infections they don't like sucking very much and so Wyatt stopped breastfeeding (yes, I'm still doing that) for 12 days. Since I was not ready to stop I proceeded to pump that whole time and now Wyatt has taken over in that category again.

Anyway, in the meantime Wyatt has turned 9 months old. Nine months is one of those times when babies have a doctor's appt. but since Wyatt's doctor is in Chine until the first part of November we have to wait an extra couple weeks. From Wyatt's few trips to the doctor's through his illnesses though he was 19 lbs. 9 oz. so just shy of tripling his birth weight of 6 lbs. 9 oz.

On an exciting note Wyatt has begun a form of forward movement. It is kind of a semi-army crawl. Unfortunately the blog is not letting me post the video and cute pictures again so keep checking back and they will be up in the near future (hopefully).

Here is the picture and video that I haven't been able to post the last couple of days. In the picture Wyatt is showing off his two upper teeth. Then in the video I did not hit the "Mute Wyatt" button he just decided to start "talking" without making any sounds at all. Enjoy!

Good news!

Gas prices are coming down! That's right, here in Western Wisconsin it is below $3! Bert is telling me that it is $2.60 something in parts of the Twin Cities.

Wyatt hasn't been feeling well for a little while now. On Sunday night/Monday morning he decided that he didn't want to drink anything no matter how we tried to give it to him. So we went to the doctor's on Monday and he was diagnosed with 2 ear infections and put on ampicillin for 10 days. That was supposed to help his drinking but it didn't so we went back in on Wednesday. It was then that he was diagnosed with hand, foot and mouth disease. There were a couple decent sized sores on his tongue causing him quite a bit of pain when he tried to suck so he didn't. To prevent dehydration we have been syringing liquids into him since Monday. Well after a long week tonight he finally "inhaled" 7-8 ounces of milk from a bottle. I have literally never seen him drink that much that fast ever. This means that he might be feeling well enough to start nursing again soon. That's right, all week I've been pumping. Now that he's being treated for he ailments he has been sleeping better this week, too. Unfortunately, I have not been because whatever he had he gave to me and I've had a sore throat/cough all week.

So as you can see it has been a long and trying week for us. The good part is that Wyatt has been pretty happy and alert just not drinking anything. I will have to upload the picture and video I wanted to post some other time because things aren't being cooperative.

Some more pictures!

There isn't really much new going on so I just thought that I would post a few pictures this time.

8 months!

I like being silly!
(it seems like the picture should be turned 90 degrees but no this is just the way he was lying.)

I know that I'm a little late with this post but Wyatt is now 8 months old. And, since I've been keeping you updated about his teeth he cut his third tooth (2nd top tooth) on the 17th. There is now a tooth blister started for his 2nd bottom tooth so that won't be too far behind. This weekend the three of us ventured to my parent's house this weekend for the First Annual Bacon Family Reunion. It was pretty fun. I got to see quite a few of my relatives that I never knew I had. There were three babies under a year: Wyatt (8 months), another boy who was 7 months and a little girl who was 8.5 months. That will be more entertaining next year when they can all walk instead of wanting to sleep but refusing to do it (ie: they were kinda cranky). Unfortunately, I do not have any pictures from this weekend. The down side of going to Amherst for the weekend is that it is such a short time there for the amount of driving that is done. Also, Wyatt's schedule/routine gets all out of wack. So today he mostly slept (4 naps to his usual 2-3). He has also had a bit of a nose cold with a cough. He doesn't seem to be coughing as much anymore and I'm not continuously suctioning his nose so I think he's getting over it. That's about all for now.

I'm perfectly content on my belly, thank you very much!

Why DO they have to put the tags under things?

And now there are two!

Here's Wyatt getting some last minute pictures in with his Aunt Leslie (and Louie) before she goes back to Law School! We'll miss you!!

I'm sorry that it has been a little while but things have been pretty crazy for me. I work at a church with youth and confirmation. Since this is the beginning of the school year everything at church has been getting started. Anyway, things have been pretty good at home. Wyatt seems to be liking daycare. After the first couple days Wyatt started getting a runny nose. I figured it was to be expected starting daycare or that it was because he was teething again. Well I was right on one account for sure. On Thursday morning I saw that Wyatt had his second tooth!! The surprising thing was it wasn't his second bottom tooth. That's right, his second tooth is on the top just above his first tooth. Then today I was looking in his mouth and noticed that tooth # 3 and 4 might not be very far away either. The bad thing is that his runny nose has also turned into a bit of a cough. I feel so bad for him when he coughs because it sounds so bad.

As for movement, Wyatt seems pretty content to roll pretty much wherever he wants to go. I sometimes just see what he'll do when I put his knees up under him but he wants nothing to do with that. It almost seems like his belly is glued to the floor sometimes. I have included a few pictures of Waytt. The second one is of him lying on the floor with his feet crossed, he seems to like doing that. The third one, I was watching him play by himself and somehow he got his floor gym on top of himself. When I turned to get my camera he was able to get the gym propped up on his swing. Then he just started having the time of his life. He just giggled for about 5-10 minutes like that.
I'm just relaxing on the floor.

I'm playing under my gym because that's where the tag is.

Mmmm. Lunch was good!

Aunt Peggy, you did NOT just take my picture again!

Day Care

Yesterday was Wyatt's first day of day care. He seems to have done pretty well. They really seem to like him and say that he's a very laid back baby and is almost smiling. He likes to talk to them and play with the other babies. Oh yeah, he's in a day care center in River Falls and there are a number of other babies his age (3 are only a week younger than him). He seems to be adjusting pretty well.

When I had Wyatt on his belly this morning he tried to get his knees up under his butt. It seems like he might be on the forward move pretty soon. Sometimes if I put my hands on his feet he will push off and then he realizes that he can move forward that way. Other than that things have been pretty normal around here.

Here is a picture of Wyatt and a couple of the grandkids of one of the women that was watching Wyatt up until last week, Carolyn.

A tooth!

That's right, Wyatt's tooth finally cut through last night (or the night before, I couldn't tell)! Today was a kind of fun day for Wyatt. Since it is Friday we had Baby and Me. Bert also had the day off so Wyatt got a whole day with both mom and dad. Other than that it was a pretty mundane day. With Bert home I tried to take advantage of that and got a couple things done that I've been trying to do for a little while (which includes the laundry)! Wyatt is learning that he can roll to most places that he wants to get to so I am having to watch him a little closer. I can't remember what I was doing but I was in the living room with Wyatt on the floor. My attention was drawn away from Wyatt for a little bit and when I looked up he was trying to put one of Hawk's toys in his mouth. I did get there quick enough and prevented it but it brought to my attention that I have to watch Wyatt more carefully now and that I should start getting rid of some of Hawk's older toys (he has quite a few).

Laughing is good medicine!

Today I was playing around with Wyatt and found that he really liked me shaking his worm in front of him. Just to warn you at the end of the video Wyatt gets a little too silly and looses his balance and falls over (he's sitting). He totally didn't get hurt; I'm not sure if he even realized that he fell because he just kept laughing.

Also, I'll have to keep you up-to-date on Wyatt's tooth progress. Bert and I noticed that Wyatt has a tooth trying to cut through. We can feel the sharpness of it but it is still under some skin.

Infant Olympics

Smiley fun with Dad!

Yesterday was Wyatt's 7 month birthday. Again his Aunt Peggy was over and did the honor of taking a bunch of pictures for us again. Some of them made me think of Infant Olympics: Flexibility. So here are some pictures for your enjoyment.

Leg to hand kick.

Foot to mouth.

Both foot grab, thumb to mouth.

The videos

Here are the two videos that I thought are pretty cute. The first one Wyatt is rolling over trying to get his phone rattle but not quite getting it. The second one is at the picnic last week. Someone found out that Wyatt really like the sound of ice in a glass. This kept him happy and laughing for about twenty minutes.

A long week

As the title says it has been a long week for us. It started last weekend. Bert, Wyatt and I were already planning on seeing quite a bit of Bert's families in Bruce and Bloomer, WI when we found out that one of his HS classmates had passed away and there was a memorial service for him in Bruce on Sat. This was good for Bert because we were already going to be there so he could go to the service. We were going to Bruce to visit/meet Bert's Uncle Steve and family which expanded by one almost 4 weeks ago now. It was fun visiting with them and meeting Phillip. It is so hard to believe that Wyatt was that small 6 months ago.

Then we were off to Bloomer to have a picnic with a bunch of Bert's mom's family. All of Bert's siblings were there as well as his grandparents, an aunt, and a couple cousins. This was fun because his cousins have young children as well. The ages of these younger kids are 10 months and 3 days younger than Wyatt (as well as some older children). Sunday was then another long day for Wyatt with church, IHOP, and spending most of the afternoon at Aunt Leslie's watching the Twins game and Olympics.

Once Monday came around everyone was pretty tired. At some point during the day I was trying to keep Wyatt happy and picked him up and he felt very hot. He ended up having a temp of 103. The short version is we went to the clinic and they couldn't find anything really wrong so they wanted me to keep him on tylenol and mortin to try and keep him comfortable. He still didn't sleep well at all that night or at all on Tues. Then I started getting worried about dehydration after he hadn't drank anything for almost 14 hours. By Tuesday night he started feeling better, started eating and finally slept again from 7 pm-4:30 am when he was woken up really hungry. Things are now almost totally back to normal.

I have a couple video's I want to post but right now I'm having trouble getting them to load so I will try again tomorrow because it it time to go to bed.

Sitting and rolling

It has been a little while again. Things have been going well for us. Last weekend was the Porter (my dad's family) Reunion. My parents actually hosted it at their house. Because of this we had some cleaning/setting up to do on Saturday but that's okay. Wyatt had his first hay ride while we were there (sorry, no pictures). We had Bert's 4-wheeler hooked to his trailer (with hay bales in it) to act as a shuttle service for the reunion so on Saturday night we took a quick ride over to

great-grandma's house. Then when Sunday came Wyatt did really well at the reunion when he was awake. He was also the youngest in attendance by 3 months so that was fun.

This week has been quite fun for us. Wyatt is getting to the age where he's making leaps and bounds in his development/learning. This week he "remembered" how to roll over from his belly to his back. He is also sitting up all by himself quite a bit better, sometimes up to 5 minutes at a time. Then I was playing around with him yesterday and he rolled from his back to his belly. He was trying to get my cell phone and over he went (and got the phone). I now know that he has a fascination with my phone. I have been able to use my phone as a lure and he has gone a full 360 on his belly trying to get it. It won't be long until he gets the hang of things and is on the move.

I also found that Wyatt likes basically anything he's not supposed to have which includes my book. If I lay him on his back and hold my book over him he will "talk" making it sound like he is reading my book. I have a short little video of him doing that. At the end of the video it also seems like he's trying to tell me that it is time to turn the page.

Oh yeah, in my last post I mentioned that Wyatt hadn't been sleeping very well. It seems as though his 6 month shots got to him a little bit and he even ended up running a low grade fever on that Sunday night. We gave him a little tylenol and that seemed to have done the trick because he slept better that night which allowed him to get over what was bothering him. He is now fully back on his normal routine.

On Thursday, Bert watched Wyatt all day (while I worked) for the first time. Bert was able to get Thursday off of work and so since Wyatt generally goes to a friends house he stayed home with Dad. Bert didn't say that he would never do it again so I guess things went pretty well.

1/2 a year old!

Thursday was Wyatt's 6 month birthday! Yesterday was his doctor's appointment so I thought I would wait at least that long to post but then yesterday I wasn't feeling all that great (runny nose and cough) so it didn't get done then either. Also, Peggy, Bert's sister was over which was really fun. She has this really nice camera and took a ton of pictures of Wyatt. They all turned out really well as you will see by the pictures I post. Wyatt has proven once again that he is a growing, healthy boy. His head remains on the smallish side at 17 inches (25%), average on weight: 16 lbs 11 oz. (50%); and fairly tall: 27.5 inches (75%). He got more pokes so was pretty crabby the rest of the day.

He's doing really well with his solid food eating. We have now tried 4 vegetables: sweet potatoes, green beans and peas and he loves them all. Tonight we tried carrots. It went as well as to be expected. The first few bites he wasn't sure about them but didn't spit them out. Then after that he was like a little bird waiting for his food: mouth wide open.

Last night was a long one for us. I'm not exactly sure why but Wyatt decided that he didn't want to sleep like he usually does. He was up at 10:45, 12:15, 5:00 and 6:00. It might have been because he got shots yesterday or because he's going to make a developmental "leap". Hopefully tonight goes better.

I think I'll stick my tongue out for the camera!

It was fun playing with the grass.

Can someone help me get my teether unstuck from my head?

I love my puppy!

Me and mom having fun together!
