Birthday party #2

Yesterday was Wyatt's birthday party with my family. It was rather small but went very well. He got a couple more books (he LOVES reading), a stuffed Curious George, a cute little outfit, and a Leap Frog Learn and Groove Musical Table. The table has a lot of different things for him to push, pull, spin and flip but it also helps him stand and "cruise".

At both parties he really wasn't too sure of what to think of his cupcakes. I have a little video from yesterday that shows his reaction to the cake; you'll have to keep an eye on his mouth and facial expressions. He doesn't seem to be very impressed but I guess that's good because maybe he didn't inherit my sweet tooth. I also have a short video of him pushing his shopping cart. Until he can walk better someone will have to make sure it doesn't go too fast for him.

I would like to say Thank You to everyone who has helped make Wyatt's 1st Birthday a fun one. Thank you also for all of the wonderful presents. They are all great and will keep him well occupied a quite a while.

I have to find out who it is from first, mom.
Here are his cupcakes!
And his "smash" cake...
...that he didn't really smash.

And today Wyatt's 1!!!!!

Today is Wyatt's 1st Birthday! It is hard to believe what was happening last year today. I also set my cell phone alarm to go off at 7:53 pm tonight (the time Wyatt was born) so Bert and I could sing Happy Birthday to him at that time. So much has happened in such a short amount of time.

This will actually be a 2-part post. The second part will come tomorrow after my family and friends get together to celebrate Wyatt's birthday but today's post is of the birthday celebration at Bert's mom's house. We had quite a bit of fun with most of the family there. Wyatt got his first stab at a frosted cupcake. He totally didn't know what to do with it. The first thing he did was turn it upside down and got the frosting all over the tray. Then, once he had the fun-to-play-with stuff off, the cupcake got dropped on the floor. He proceeded to play with the frosting for a little bit but he didn't get all that messy. Then it was on to opening his presents. He got some of his favorite things: toys with wheels. He got a larger Tonka Truck (he has a few smaller ones), a pull-along phone which he started ringing right away. And then he got a 4-key piano which he LOVES to pound on.

After we got home Bert and I gave him the present from us: a shopping cart he can stand up behind and push around to learn to walk. He had quite a bit of fun with it. Here are a few pictures from today's events. And stay tuned in in the near future to see how tomorrow's celebration goes!

What am I supposed to do with this?

Tip it over?
or Drop it on the floor and play with this white stuff?
Look at my new truck and piano!
Sweet! I get to rip more paper!
Hurry up dad or I'll play with it in the box.
This walking thing makes me very happy!!

See what I can do mom! I pulled myself up here (the outside of his crib).

Wyatt reading his first 1st Birthday Card!

This is the you'll-have-to-change-my-diaper-in-just-a-minute look.

Here are a couple pictures and a video depicting how Wyatt doesn't quite know how to use his ATV yet.

Our Holidays

Hi, everyone. Sorry it has been a little while since I posted. Things have been pretty hectic and I was also waiting for a picture from someone before I posted because it was really cute.

Our holidays went very well. It started at Bert's mom's house. It was pretty low key but Wyatt got to open his first presents there (sorry, forgot my camera). He got a couple packages of bath toys thanks to Aunt Sandy and Brian. He also got his very own Radio Flyer Red Wagon from all of Bert's family. He will have so much fun with that.

After that was Christmas with my family (minus Uncle Kyle but we're getting to that). Wyatt hit the jackpot with presents which included a dump-truck and a Ride-On John Deere ATV from grandma and grandpa plus numerous books, some clothes and a College Fund Piggy Bank. After that we went to my aunt and uncle's house for an extended family Christmas. All four of the great-grandkids were there ranging in age from 2 months to just under 2 years. It was mighty fun getting everyone together and watching our children interact.

Now comes the seeing Uncle Kyle part. Since my brother is a doctor in St. Louis he was unable to make it up for Christmas so my parents, sister, Wyatt and myself drove down there (5 people in a 5 passenger car) to see him.We left Friday and came back Sunday so a quick little trip. The round trip was 24 hours in the car but we made the most of our time down there. There was a little bit of present opening and then on Saturday we went to St. Louis' free Art Museum which was pretty cool. Unfortunately it was raining so we were unable to really enjoy the 70 degree weather. Then it was time to head home. Oh yeah, about the car rides, some people might think we were nuts taking an 11 month old on a car ride to St. Louis and I was kind of wondering that too but Wyatt was amazingly good. I don't think he made many (if any) cranky noises the whole time. It did help that he decided, after never being interested in a pacifier, to start sucking one on the way down.

Then it was New Year's Eve and we went to a friend's house for a small bash. Bert and I stayed awake until midnight but I can't say the same for Wyatt. We had brought our pack n' play so he could go to sleep when he got tired. We did have to wake him up to go home but he fell right back to sleep once he got into his crib.

Other than that nothing much has happened. I had my last day of work on Dec. 31st and am now preparing to take a CNA (certified nursing assistant) class for the next four weeks plus a week of clinicals. I'm doing this in order to be able to find a job relatively quickly since Bert is in school and can't work enough for me to stay at home.

I hope everyone had as good of a holiday season as we did!

Here's some wrapping paper for you dad.
