1/2 a year old!

Thursday was Wyatt's 6 month birthday! Yesterday was his doctor's appointment so I thought I would wait at least that long to post but then yesterday I wasn't feeling all that great (runny nose and cough) so it didn't get done then either. Also, Peggy, Bert's sister was over which was really fun. She has this really nice camera and took a ton of pictures of Wyatt. They all turned out really well as you will see by the pictures I post. Wyatt has proven once again that he is a growing, healthy boy. His head remains on the smallish side at 17 inches (25%), average on weight: 16 lbs 11 oz. (50%); and fairly tall: 27.5 inches (75%). He got more pokes so was pretty crabby the rest of the day.

He's doing really well with his solid food eating. We have now tried 4 vegetables: sweet potatoes, green beans and peas and he loves them all. Tonight we tried carrots. It went as well as to be expected. The first few bites he wasn't sure about them but didn't spit them out. Then after that he was like a little bird waiting for his food: mouth wide open.

Last night was a long one for us. I'm not exactly sure why but Wyatt decided that he didn't want to sleep like he usually does. He was up at 10:45, 12:15, 5:00 and 6:00. It might have been because he got shots yesterday or because he's going to make a developmental "leap". Hopefully tonight goes better.

I think I'll stick my tongue out for the camera!

It was fun playing with the grass.

Can someone help me get my teether unstuck from my head?

I love my puppy!

More visiting

I know it has been longer than I like between posts but I have a good reason: I'm re-reading the Harry Potter books and I have been unable to pull myself away from them long enough to post. Okay, some of you may not think it is a good reason but it's my story and I'm stickin to it. Anyway, Bert, Wyatt, Hawk and I traveled to see my parents over the Fourth of July weekend. While we were there so were my cousins Sally, Mara and Josh with their spouses and children. Sam, Sally's son, turned 1 on July 5th so we had to go over and wish him a happy birthday. Then there was also Josh's son who is only 3 weeks older than Wyatt so it was fun getting those two together. And while we were visiting them Mara, and her husband Mike, announced that they are expecting a child in Feb. 2009!! So many babies! Josh and his wife Debora also informed us that they were going to transfered to Germany by the end of the year and will be there for 2-5 years! They are really excited about it!

Now back to my parent's hobby farm. My parents have an array of animals residing at their place. Among them are 5 goats (to help keep the grass/weeds down). They have one male goat who is very friendly so Wyatt got to meet him. At first Wyatt didn't know what to think but then decided that he might be fun to pet. It was really pretty cute.

Wyatt has been eating "solid" food now for a couple 2-3 weeks. I thought I would start him on some vegetables so I chose sweet potatoes to start with and he loves those. Then tonight I had him try green beans. Those he doesn't love so much yet. I think most of what I gave him ended up on his chest or hands because it didn't seem like much was staying in his mouth. Oh well, I figured that would happen. I'll just have to keep trying.

Congratulations again Mara and Mike on the news of your pregnancy!

Wyatt and his (2nd) Cousin Thomas.
They both like standing but Thomas is better at it than Wyatt.

The boys (and their parents) had fun messing around with bubbles.

I'm not so sure about this goat, grandpa.

Maybe he is all right.

Lots of stuff

In my last post I mentioned that my cousin Karen would soon begin her parenthood journey. Well on Wednesday, June 18th, Ian Michael was born weighing 8 lbs. 15 oz and was 21 inches long so a pretty big boy. Everyone is doing great! Congratulations Karen and John Nelson!
Wyatt is sure getting vocal. I also think he is learning that if he makes enough noise that I will come to his rescue so he makes lots of noise sometimes for no reason. Like just now he dropped a toy and was telling me that he did and when I didn't respond he looked sideways and saw that he could still reach it (that's why I didn't do anything).

A couple of weeks ago, on Wyatt's 5 month birthday he had his first sleepover at grandma and grandpa's house. On the 18th and 19th I had been called for jury duty. I had people who could help me watch Wyatt every week except that one so my parents said that they could watch him. The catch was that they couldn't come to River Falls because of stuff they had going on at home. So on Tuesday (the 17th) I met my mom and aunt in Stanley, WI and handed my son over to them for a couple days. Wyatt had a blast and was well behaved for his grandparents. I had a fairly rough time with it. The bigger bummer is that I didn't even have to go to court because the cases settle out of court. So, since I have been bringing Wyatt to work with me, I went into work and had a couple days there without him. Then on Thursday after work I drove to Amherst and spent a couple nights there as well. Then on our way home again on Saturday, Wyatt and I stopped by Bert's grandparent's house in Chippewa Falls and there we saw Wyatt's great-grandparents, Bert's cousin and her husband and 1.5 year old son, Bert's sister Peggy and his mom so Wyatt got to see lots of relatives that weekend! He did really well until nap time and then got pretty cranky so we got back on the road at that time.

Oh yeah, Wyatt seems to be hungry all the time now and so on Saturday Bert and I made the decision to start Wyatt on Rice Cereal. I have added one picture of that. It was very interesting that first night. Wyatt didn't swallow much food but thought it would be fun to spit it out and play with it instead. He did like to suck on the spoon so maybe he got some food down. Then we tried again last night and it went much better and he actually opened his mouth when the spoon was approaching (again that might have been because he wanted the spoon in his mouth with or without food on it).

Who says I'm not big enough for the front seat?
(we were chillin out in Stanley waiting for my mom and Aunt Linda to show up.)

This feels sooo good!

Grandma's shoulder is a good place for me to rest my weary head.

Grandpa got the nightly fun of reading me my stories.

Grandma, I'm starting to get tired!

Just warning you: If you let me grab them your fingers will go to my mouth!

I think I like the taste of the bib better mom.
